The Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley has the highest flood exposure in NSW because of its unique landscape and large existing population. There is no simple solution to preventing floods in the valley, part of the multi-faceted risk management approach is to increase flood awareness and preparedness in community.
Reconstruction NSW (formerly Infrastructure NSW) approached Spatial Media to create a visually engaging and accurately detailed communication video to use with public to increase understanding of the severity of flood disaster impacts on people, property and lives.
The resulting output is the flagship production video titled the ‘Floods. The Risk is Real’ featuring two SES workers, each explaining the dangers of flooding within the valley. Spatial Media conducted on-location filming of both workers, utilising green screen technology to enable compositing within 3D environments to show the flood water level rising in a realistic environment. The flexibility of digital animation allows for scenarios that would explain the gravity of flooding events with impact that would connect and resonate with audiences.
