Transforming airport planning and growth using a digital twin

The challenge

Implement interactive 3D technologies to speed up concept designs and decision making

Our solution

Spatial Media created a 3D digital twin of Moree Shire Airport to support the design and planning of airport growth. Creating a model of the existing airport we utilised cesium world terrain and imagery data and modelled key airport infrastructure from CAD and photo references.

Utilising our Spatial Reality software we were then able to facilitate interactive workshops with the client to support and facilitate concept design development and review. The outcome from the workshops was the ability for the council to make decisions on options and also create content for stakeholders including captuing images and videos. We added a 3D layer of the OLS and also created a flight path and taxi animation of the Qantas Q300 and Q400 aircraft.

All the content created was published to our SpatialEngage interactive map for sharing internally and externally.

Now the base model has been created the process of using our software and interactive workshops to facilitate rapid concept design development has become a cost effective process for Moree Shire
