As the Australian Government works through feasibility license applications Offshore Wind Energy Victoria (OWEV) were seeking to provide public an understanding what wind turbines off the coast of Gippsland might look like from popular locations along the coastline Golden Beach, Woodside Beach and Mount Oberon summit (Wilsons Promontory).
The Gippsland offshore wind declared area begins at least 10km from shore, in waters governed by the Australian Government. For Golden Beach and Woodside Beach, which are close and popular beaches to the Gippsland offshore wind declared area, Spatial Media developed renders that illustrate an offshore wind farm at three distances from shore – 10km, 30km, and 60km utilising real photo image captures from the location overlaid with turbine farm layout with complex calculations used to ensure accurate visualisations.
Mt Oberon a popular lookout in Wilsons Promontory National Park is a further distance from the declared area meaning 30kms from shore is the closest that turbines might be, this is unlike Golden Beach and Woodside Beach where the declared area starts at 10 kms from shore.
Our custom web portal on SpatialEngage enables users to move the viewpoint and change the distance setting in an 180degree panoramic view or browse a series of still images. Spatial Media also developed subsequent viewpoint visualisations for other offshore wind areas that have been utilised in targeted stakeholder engagement activities.
