Using immersive tools to foster confidence and understanding in the public

The challenge

The client was looking to showcase the new West Gate Tunnel Project infrastructure changes to the public in an immersive way. We created a fully functional driving simulator so that the public can get a glimpse of what their travel will look like when the West Gate Tunnel Project opened in 2025.

Our solution

The client held a state wide roadshow across key regional centres and the western project corridor allowing thousands of people to drive the West Gate Tunnel before it opened with the driver simulator meaning people can get behind the wheel and experience the tunnel and connections for themselves. Implementing immersive tools such as the driving simulator allow for a deeper public understanding and confidence in what they could expect once the project is complete.

The Simulator was a massive hit in drawing in people who wouldn't ordinarily engage with government or infrastructure to understand the project, ask questions and find out more. Spatial Media supported the client from the visuals already created in our interactive model to transforming them to an interactive simulator experience, sourcing hardware and onsite event assistance across major events such as the Australian Grand Prix, Avalon Airshow as well as local shopping centres.
