our solution for

West Gate Tunnel Project

West Gate Tunnel Project’s digital engagement partner from design concept through to road opening!

The challenge

The West Gate Tunnel Project (WGTP) will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, quicker and safer journeys, and will remove thousands of trucks from residential streets. Seeking innovation and value for money, a 3D asset was sought that could generate a wide range of outputs to assist with communication and stakeholder engagement activities including interactive experiences at the project information centre.

Our solution

Understanding the scale and significance of the project needs over many years Spatial Media created a complete West Gate Tunnel Project model that would highlight the proposed scope of works for the tunnel and its supplementary infrastructure upgrades. Built on our interactive 3D platform the model has enabled the client great flexibility to produce unlimited premium quality outputs including animations, image renders, 360 imagery and route videos to use collateral and communications. Our highly efficient workflows and processes for model reviews mean we can deploy model updates within days rather than weeks meaning the model is up to date and relevant as the project has evolved.

Spatial Media also created two dynamic, fully interactive user experiences using augmented reality (AR).  Users could activate these by scanning a QR code driving engagement up by over 130%, reaching a wide demographic and increasing audience reach. The Tunnel Boring Machine  (TBM), AR module provides detail of TBM components and gives users deeper insight into the scale and complexity of the TBM operation.

Innovating on the in-person WGTP visitor centre experience Spatial Media created a fully immersive virtual reality (VR) experience to allow the public to ride a stationary bike with a VR headset to explore the new bike and veloway connections designs by bike in a safe and engaging manner.

As the project approaches completion and is gearing towards road opening in 2025 Spatial Media supported communication and engagement strategy with driver journey videos, a journey planning tool and targeted stakeholder animations.

from our clients

They are our go to tech-savvy experts with huge amounts of creative flair!

COVID19 social distancing restrictions made having our large scale community event nearly impossible, so we decided to take our face-to-face event online. Spatial worked really closely with us to develop the concept, design and platform that would host our virtual community event. The Spatial team are exceptionally creative, with a fantastic ability to bring your idea to fruition in a way you never thought possible. They made our pen on paper scribble into something that over 45k stakeholders visited online, more than what we could have reached in person. Thank you
