We’re proud to partner with EnergyCo to deliver an innovative digital engagement platform for the New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) - setting a new benchmark for how complex infrastructure studies are communicated and understood.
As Australia accelerates its clean energy transition, projects like the New England Renewable Energy Zone require more than technical documentation. They demand meaningful, transparent and accessible engagement with local communities. EnergyCo sought a forward-thinking solution to showcase a series of detailed studies exploring how the REZ can balance project impacts with long-term benefits - while actively gathering public feedback to help shape delivery.
We designed and developed a dynamic, user-focused interactive portal that brings critical project information to life.
The platform features dedicated sections across key topic areas, including:
● Workforce accommodation
● Training and skills development
● Local supply chain opportunities
● Waste and circular economy
● Water and wastewater security
Rather than just presenting information as static reports, the homepage incorporates a scrollytelling experience that intuitively guides users through each topic area. This narrative-led approach encourages deeper exploration and ensures communities can easily understand how different elements of the project connect.
By combining strategic storytelling with digital design, our team transforms technical studies into clear, engaging and accessible content - a hallmark of our expertise in the digital engagement space.
Community engagement is most effective when feedback is structured, measurable and actionable.
The portal includes an integrated multi-step survey designed to uncover local issues, priorities and perspectives across the region. This allows community members to provide meaningful input on the factors that matter most to them. All feedback flows directly into Spatial Media’s SpatialEngage Enterprise platform, enabling streamlined data collation, real-time insights and efficient reporting for the project team. This closed-loop engagement model ensures community voices inform decision-making - not just consultation reporting.
The New England REZ portal demonstrates how digital engagement can:
● Improve transparency around complex infrastructure studies
● Increase accessibility to technical information
● Encourage informed participation
● Deliver measurable, data-driven community insights
● Support social license through meaningful two-way engagement
As renewable energy projects scale across Australia, digital engagement has a critical role in building understanding and trust. It is a clear goal of ours to work with clients throughout this evolution and design platforms that bridge the gap between technical complexity and community clarity.
Through innovative storytelling, intelligent data capture and enterprise-grade engagement tools, we are helping infrastructure and energy organisations move beyond consultation - toward genuine collaboration.
