Cross River Rail presented a complex training environment — new infrastructure, high-risk operational scenarios, and a workforce that needed to be prepared before the tunnels and corridors were ever in service. Traditional training methods couldn't safely or cost-effectively replicate the environments, hazards, and emergency situations staff would face.
Using a single, highly detailed 3D model as the foundation, Spatial Media developed five distinct training packages, maximising consistency, scalability, and value while significantly reducing development time and cost. This model-driven approach meant multiple learning outcomes could be delivered from one shared digital environment, ensuring alignment across safety messaging, operational procedures, and workforce capability.
The training suite covered tunnel and corridor trespass prevention, maintenance and possession operations, hazard identification, tunnel communications systems, and an emergency evacuation decision simulation, giving learners the knowledge and confidence to operate safely across one of Australia's most complex rail infrastructure projects.
