our solution for

V/Line's digital training built for the complexity of regional rail

Spatial Media developed V/Map for V/Line, an interactive digital training platform giving Train Drivers a comprehensive, single-point view of the entire network, covering stations, routes, infrastructure, and operational procedures in one intuitive interface.

The challenge

Driver training across a complex regional network had long relied on multiple systems, paper-based manuals, and fragmented resources. This created inconsistencies in route knowledge, added burden on trainers, and made it difficult to ensure every driver had access to the same accurate, up to date information when they needed it most.

Our solution

V/Map brings the entire V/Line network together in a structured tour format, presenting track layouts, speeds, controlling signallers, safe working systems, headlight and lease boundaries, TFP region types, and curve boards in a single searchable platform. Every station and piece of infrastructure is annotated with relevant procedures, reference documents, images, videos, and supporting training collateral, allowing drivers and trainees to explore and learn the network in an interactive and self-directed way.

By replacing paper manuals and disconnected systems with one central repository, V/Map gives trainers and drivers instant access to everything they need to build competency and confidence. The outcomes speak for themselves. Errors are reduced, route knowledge and operational understanding are improved, and training delivery is faster and more consistent, providing a modern, auditable approach to driver training that enhances safety and operational readiness across the V/Line network.

from our clients

The final product is polished and professional

KiwRail embarked on developing a virtual training tool to assist with establishing and maintaining route knowledge competency. Spatial Media were engaged for this task. Spatial Media have performed exceptionally well- deadlines set were met, communication between the two businesses was maintained with regular meetings. Urgent requests for information and changes to the work as it progressed were handled without issue and at the same time, expectations regarding the delivery were also met. The final product is polished, professional and feedback from end users has been overwhelmingly positive. KiwiRail are continuing our association with Spatial media as we create virtual training tools to enable the business to manage risk in the rail network.
